Quick Tips - How To Measure
How to measure for custom barn door.
We get numerous requests every day for custom barn doors. One of the most important questions is – how do we measure.
For door openings with casing/molding: Measure from outside to outside of casing/molding across for the width and from the top of the casing/molding to the floor for height. Add 1″ to 2″ per door for overlap depending on privacy needs.
For door openings without casing/molding: Measure the inside of the opening across for width and from the top of the opening to the floor for height. Add 2″ to 4″ per door for overlap depending on privacy needs.
You will need a minimum of 6″ between the ceiling or crown molding and the top of the door molding or opening for the hardware to mount, depending on the style hardware that you choose. You must also make sure that you have enough room on one side of the opening for a single door and either side of the opening for a double door, in order for your barn doors to open properly. This space is equivalent to the width of the door(s) that your ordering. Also make sure that you account for molding such as chair rail, thermostats, outlets, light switches, vents and any other object or objects that might impede the proper installation and the function of your sliding door.

Custom Door Policies
Each door is handcrafted and as such there can be slight differences whether it is in the grain of the wood, the stain finish or the painted & distressed finish. Â
The doors are built based on the measurements, you the customer, provides. Always double check your measurements to ensure they are correct. Once a door is started, we can't change the size. There isn't a refund due to incorrect measurements or if you change your mind on a finish. Â
Our standard door pricing includes a stain finish. If you wish unfinished, the price remains the same. Painted finishes are considered an up charge. OUR standard designs include our arrow, zee, standard frame, lower X, traditional frame. Other designs are available but priced based on the design and finish.
Hardware is not included in the pricing of doors, unless it is specified and listed on the written quote. If you order hardware, it is not attached to the door(s) to ensure there isn't any damage in transit. We don't drill holes for the mounting hardware as we recommend you do that once the rail is installed and you have confirmed the correct height. Â
If a pull is ordered, we will cut out the mounting point, the location of it based on your request, ie right or left side, middle of the door, etc.
Visit our shop page, barn door hardware for hardware styles, finishes and pricing. Hardware is subject to a 25% restocking charge if you change your mind after we have ordered it from our supplier.
Pick up is in Binbrook, ON. We do not offer installation as this time. We can offer some suggestions, but they are merely that, suggestions. Â
We do have messengers that will offer delivery of your door, if needed. The costs are not included in the quote. If you believe you will need delivery, confirm the same and request it to be added to your quote. Â
Deposits are not refundable once a door has been started.  Quote times are approximate. Circumstances beyond our control can extend or shorten those timelines. However, we do our very best to keep you informed of any changes. Â
We are not responsible for a door or doors once they have been picked up. If you are transporting on your own, ensure you have loaded it correctly and safely.  We always recommend moving blankets or cardboard be brought with you to ensure the pieces aren't damaged during your transporting.Â
We don’t warranty the door.  We aren’t familiar with what the environment is the door is being installed in, how it is used or handled, room conditions, etc. Â
